How to add a machine

One of the first things you would like to do is to add a machine to your environment. By doing that, the data collection can start. This guide will help you through the process of adding a machine to the mobileiot suite. Within the mobileiot suite, there are actual two processes.

Adding the machine, in this process a new asset is created in your environment. In this case a machine. This machine though only exists in the enviroment for basic management like assigning it to a model, or to a organization. But it will not generate any data traffic, and/or remote access to this machine is not possible yet.

The second step is assigning a contract, or enabling the features to that machine. Only then, that machine then will be able to transfer information to the cloud or accessing it remotely.

In this chapter, we will be focusing on Adding a machine to the system.

✅ Prerequisites

Administrator access to the mobile IoT Suite with the rights to add new machines.

You're logged into the mobile IoT Suite.

You have a ifm mobile IoT Gateway that you need to add to the system.

Add machine

So now that we're logged in, we're going to start the process to add the machine.

Navigate the machines application by clicking on the Machines tile.

Within the machine application, you can navigate to different underlaying categories in this case, we would like to add the machine.

Click on

+ Add machine

Gateway details

In this first view, we need to specifiy the details of the gateway that will be installed on your machine. Probably you already have it at hand.

Select first the gateway type that will be used.

Fill-out the IMEI nr in the required field. The wizard will show you where to find the IMEI nr.

Gateway type not found

In the case where the gateway type is not recognized by the system, you will be asked to enter the gateway type.

In this verification step, the systems will look for the entered IMEI. If it will be found, the system will show the following screen. Here you will be asked to confirm that the IMEI you entered correspond to the Serialnr. mentioned in this screen.

Please verify the two numbers, the Serial nr (S/N) and the IMEI.

If they both correspond to you gateway, check the checkbox.

Machine details

Now that the gateway is known, you can create your machine in the platform. For this some information is required, just run through the following steps:

In the first drop-down, the organization is defined. Currently the dropdown is disabled due to technical reasons. In the future, you will be able to directly assign the newly created machine to a lower-level organization.

Select the

model type

for the machine

Name

of the machine

The machine

serialnr

. can be choosen freely, when the checkbox in item 5 is disabled.

If enabled, the

IMEI

will be assigned as machine serialnr.

Make sure everything is filled out correctly

Click on

Next

Finalize

The system now will show you an overview of all information available on this machine.

Yet again, validate. We don't want things to go wrong.

Finish it with a click on Add or you can even click the Add and activate button to directly jump into the activation process.

Congratulations!! You've just added your first machine!

When the window now closes, after a refresh of the machine list, you will see the freshly added machine appearing in your machine list.
