Setup a machine network

In this step we will define what components on the network should be accessible through the remoteConnect connection. In this guide we'll make sure you can access the devices of a network.

Pre-requisites

Example structure

In this example we'll be using the structure as depicted below as the network we need to configure.

The setup
  • As main gateway we'll be using a CR3171 , that contains the remoteConnect technology. This gateway has by default the IP address of 192.168.82.1
  • On the ethernet port of the CR3171, a AL3050 is connected
  • Then we have a control system, in this case a CR721s on IP address 192.168.82.247
  • And an display, an CR1140 at IP address 192.168.82.245

All these components should be accessible through remoteConnect.

ℹ️ INFORMATION
Any IP address that has NOT been configured in this step, will NOT be accessible through remoteConnect.
In the step where the actual connection is being established, one will be able to make another selection of which devices are accessible in the current session. But if not listed in this step, it will not be selectable.

Enabling remote access to devices introduces potential security risks. To protect your systems and data, please ensure the following:

  • Limit access to only those devices and services that are absolutely necessary for your operations.
  • Monitor and log remote access sessions for unusual activity.
  • Disable remote access immediately when it is no longer needed.
The gateway

The first thing we need to check is the IP address of the gateway. As shown in the picture, this is already setup correctly.

Other components

Now to add the other components to the list of accessible devices, we would need to add so-called sub-devices.

  • Hit the plus sign to add a sub-device
  • Now you can fill-out all the components that will need to be accessible.
  • Last step is to save the configuration. After this step, the cloud system is configured and made aware of which component should be accessible.
